Chief Minister Sengeh Reaffirms Commitment to Governance and National Development Amid Political Opposition

Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has affirmed that the administration of Sierra Leone remains steadfast in its mandate, regardless of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party's recent decision to abstain from specific national processes. Dr. Sengeh emphasized that the government's primary focus remains the delivery of essential services and the promotion of national development initiatives.

"The functioning of the state is not contingent upon the participation of the APC; governance continues in full progress as we work collectively to achieve our national objectives," Dr. Sengeh remarked.

The Chief Minister highlighted the continued productivity of Parliament, noting the active engagement of Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Members of Parliament, Paramount Chief representatives, and APC Member of Parliament Mohamed Bangura. He stressed that legislators bear a fundamental responsibility to prioritize the interests of the citizenry over partisan alignment, specifically commending Hon. Bangura for his commitment to national stability.

"When representatives vacate their parliamentary duties, it reflects a misalignment of priorities. We acknowledge and support those who consistently place the national interest at the forefront of their service," he added.

Addressing local governance, Dr. Sengeh noted that service delivery within the Freetown City Council remains a priority. He advocated for a focus on substantive governance over ceremonial titles, highlighting the leadership of SLPP councillors, such as Ibrahim Gbla, in maintaining continuity. Furthermore, the government is actively working to empower Chief Administrators to fulfill their roles effectively, thereby strengthening local institutions for the public good.

Regarding the opposition's stance, the Chief Minister observed that while the APC remains involved in internal political activities and local elections, their choice to abstain from certain governance mechanisms carries significant implications for parliamentary efficiency and broader service delivery.

Dr. Sengeh concluded by reaffirming that the existing constitutional framework is the binding authority of the state, and the government will continue to operate strictly within these legal parameters.
