Chinese Ambassador Visits AIG East to Strengthen Security Cooperation

His Excellency Zhao Yong, the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, conducted a formal courtesy visit to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) East, Francis Brima Meinday. The meeting focused on reinforcing diplomatic ties and advancing bilateral security collaboration within the region.

The engagement was characterized by mutual professional respect and began with formal introductions between the Ambassador’s delegation and senior regional police leadership. AIG Meinday, representing Inspector General of Police Dr. William Fayia Sellu, expressed sincere gratitude for the Government of China's ongoing support.

The AIG highlighted that Chinese investments in infrastructure and capacity-building have been instrumental in enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Sierra Leone Police. He specifically noted improvements in logistics, specialized training, and overall institutional development as key outcomes of this partnership.

Furthermore, the Regional Police Commander East reaffirmed the force's commitment to ensuring a secure environment for Chinese nationals and their commercial interests. In response, Ambassador Zhao Yong thanked the leadership in Kenema for their hospitality and commended the robust, long-standing relationship between the two nations.

Ambassador Yong emphasized that the partnership continues to evolve, noting a shared dedication to deepening cooperation in areas vital to peace, security, and sustainable development. As part of the diplomatic itinerary, the delegation toured the Chinese Desk at the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The Regional Crime Officer provided a detailed briefing on the desk's operations, identifying it as a specialized unit designed to facilitate communication and resolve matters involving Chinese citizens efficiently. This proactive initiative underscores the importance of strategic collaboration between diplomatic missions and local security institutions.
