Court Remands Freetown Man Over $6,800 Theft

Abdul Rahman Kargbo, 34, has been remanded in custody regarding allegations of stealing $6,800 from a residence in Freetown. Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah presided over the proceedings, where Kargbo faced charges under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.


The defendant is accused of stealing $6,800 (equivalent to 161,160 Leones) from a residence in Mamah Lane, Sorie Town, Gloucester, in the Mountain Rural District of Freetown. The theft reportedly occurred on Thursday, April 9, 2026, and the stolen property belonged to Catherine Hawa Kekura. Upon reading the charges, Kargbo pleaded not guilty, asserting his innocence.


The prosecution called Inspector Kadie M. Taylor of the Mountain Division Criminal Investigation Department as the second witness. Inspector Taylor confirmed receiving the larceny report from the complainant on April 11, 2026, and commencing an investigation. Further testimony detailed the defendant’s arrest on April 13, 2026, by officers, including DPC Koroma H. A voluntary caution statement was obtained from Kargbo in Krio on April 14, 2026; he confirmed the statement's accuracy after it was read to him in English, and it was subsequently signed and entered into evidence.


The prosecution formally presented the case and charge statement to the court. Magistrate Jah remanded Kargbo to the correctional facility and adjourned the matter to June 24, 2026, for judgment, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations and the importance of due process.
