The Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Bockarie Abdel Aziz Bayoh, has formally clarified that the proposed reforms for the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) do not necessitate the removal of Chief Electoral Commissioner Edmond Alpha by December 31.
During an appearance on the Epic Morning Show, Minister Bayoh indicated that such a departure is improbable, underscoring that President Julius Maada Bio's appointment of Mr. Alpha was executed in good faith.
He further emphasized that any leadership transitions within the ECSL must adhere to rigorous constitutional protocols, asserting that reform discussions do not serve as an automatic trigger for personnel changes.
This clarification follows recent statements from the State House Press Secretary, which suggested Mr. Alpha would oversee reform processes associated with the judiciary in alignment with the International Moral Guarantors' agreement framework.
Minister Bayoh's remarks intended to rectify public interpretations of the reform agenda and provide definitive clarity regarding its impact on the electoral body's current leadership.
