Dr Demby Chairs GFF Morocco Meeting

Sierra Leone's Minister of Health, Dr Austin Demby, chaired a high-level meeting of the Global Financing Facility (GFF) Ministerial Network in Rabat, Morocco, on November 2, 2026, bringing together health ministers to discuss priorities for strengthening health systems and improving access to sustainable financing.
Dr Demby chaired the meeting in his capacity as Chairman of the Ministerial Network, a platform hosted by the World Bank that brings together health ministers from GFF partner countries to coordinate their positions on global health financing and development priorities. Discussions centred on the need for countries, particularly in Africa, to strengthen their national health systems as development assistance shifts and pressure on available financing increases.
Through the network, participating countries are able to share experiences, advance common priorities and advocate for more equitable and sustainable financing arrangements that respond to their national health needs.
A major focus of the platform is improving healthcare for women, children and adolescents, while encouraging countries to take greater ownership of their health sector priorities and long-term development plans.
Demby's chairmanship places Sierra Leone at the forefront of the network's engagement with global health financing issues, providing an opportunity for the country's health priorities to feature in wider discussions on international development support.
The Rabat meeting also marked the beginning of a broader series of GFF engagements, including the 22nd Investors Group Meeting scheduled for November 3–4, 2026. Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its commitment to country-led approaches and the development of equitable and sustainable health systems capable of delivering improved healthcare services to its population.
