The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), has announced a structured nighttime electricity supply schedule for Freetown following a decrease in power generation from the Bumbuna Hydropower Plant and limited supply from other sources.
The schedule, which will run from 16th to 22nd March 2026, divides the city into six service areas to ensure fair distribution of electricity. These areas include Central, extending from Savage Square to St. John; East, covering Upgun to Jui; Far East, from Jui to Waterloo; Mountain Rural, spanning Wilberforce to Bathurst; West, stretching from Congo Cross to Lumley Regent Road; and Far West, from Juba to Sussex.
EDSA has advised residents who experience power outages during their scheduled supply periods to report issues by calling 672 or sending a message via the official WhatsApp line at 077 672 672.
The Authority explained that the nighttime supply schedule is necessary to manage electricity more effectively during the dry season when hydropower production typically decreases. Residents are encouraged to plan their electricity usage according to their designated service areas to minimize disruptions.
The announcement also aims to minimize disruptions and maintain fair access for all Freetown households and businesses while the Ministry of Energy and EDSA work to stabilize the city’s power supply. For further updates, EDSA advised residents to follow announcements through official channels and contact the call center or WhatsApp line for urgent issues.
