Student and advocate Edwina Jamiru has officially launched her initiative, Global Justice for Women and Girls, under her organization, Her Voice Organization, to empower women and girls through legal education and advocacy.
Speaking in an interview on Liberty Online TV, Jamiru said her passion for advocacy began at a young age and inspired her to address issues affecting women and girls in Sierra Leone.
“The project focuses on educating women and girls about their rights, promoting access to justice, and encouraging them to speak up without fear,” she said.
Her Voice Organization, registered for about three years, has been actively supporting women and girls, but Jamiru noted that additional funding is needed to expand the project’s reach and impact. “We need support to take this project to more communities and impact more lives,” she added.
Jamiru has authored a series of books, which she sells to fund the organization’s activities. However, she highlighted challenges in securing sponsorship, noting that some organizations she approached, including Purposeful Organization and the Hands Off Our Girls campaign, have yet to respond.
She also pointed out ongoing challenges in Sierra Leone’s justice system, particularly for women and girls. “I want to see a society where women and girls can speak up without fear of being arrested,” she said.
Jamiru emphasized her vision of a society where women and girls are treated with dignity, their voices are heard, and their concerns are addressed. She called on young people, especially women, to join her organization, stressing that collective effort is key to achieving lasting change.
