Entrepreneur Hawa Turay Criticizes Political Divisions, Economic Hardship in Sierra Leone

Entrepreneur Hawa Turay has criticized Sierra Leone’s growing political divisions and worsening economic conditions, saying that party loyalty is hindering honest discussions about the country’s challenges.

In a widely shared social media post, Turay described Sierra Leone as “a damn hard country,” noting that the difficulties citizens face cut across party lines and affect both the wealthy and ordinary people.

She highlighted issues such as rising living costs, unemployment, weak healthcare services, and limited opportunities, emphasizing that these problems persist regardless of whether someone supports the All People’s Congress (APC) or the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

Turay also expressed concern that merit is often overlooked in favor of political connections, leaving qualified young people without jobs and slowing national progress.

Responding to claims that her comments were politically motivated, Turay clarified that she does not belong to any political party and that her focus remains on national development rather than partisan politics.

“Hardship doesn’t ask who you voted for,” she wrote, urging Sierra Leoneans to prioritize the country above political loyalty.

Her remarks have sparked debate online and contributed to broader conversations about the costs of partisanship and the need for unity in addressing Sierra Leone’s economic and social challenges.
