The nation has been stunned by the arrest and charging of two former police officers in connection with a conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery against a foreign national. The incident has raised serious concerns about a betrayal of the public trust by individuals once sworn to protect the community.
Appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown were forty-one-year-old Emmanuel Lassayo Jusu, a former police officer, thirty-seven-year-old Sellieu Saccoh, alias Sharkor, and thirty-four-year-old Joseph Jeremiah M'bosa, also a former police officer. They face serious charges, including conspiracy contrary to law and robbery with aggravation under the relevant sections of the law.
Court documents indicate that the accused allegedly conspired on Monday, December 8th, and Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at the Regent Palace Hotel in Freetown's Western Area, to commit the felony of robbery with aggravation.
Specifically, on the latter date, the defendants are accused of using a pistol (serial number SLP-17-018635-275) during an armed robbery to steal $11,000 USD and 2,500 Leones in cash from Javed Saleem, a Pakistani national. Furthermore, it is alleged that the accused used personal violence against Mr. Saleem immediately before the robbery.
Due to the nature of the preliminary investigation, no plea was entered when the charges were read. The lead defense counsel, J.M. Jengo Esq., has requested the opportunity to cross-examine two prosecution witnesses.
Given the gravity of the allegations, Magistrate Jah denied bail, citing the seriousness of the offense. The matter has been adjourned to January 23rd, 2026. Prosecutor Mabel M. Tarawally Esq. is leading the prosecution.
The judicial proceedings are being closely monitored as the nation awaits the outcome of the case, seeking justice following this alleged severe breach of duty by former law enforcement personnel.
