The Government of Sierra Leone has inaugurated a multi-agency task force to address urban lawlessness in Freetown, specifically targeting illegal street trading, unregulated transit operations, and noise pollution.

Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor Esq., announced the initiative during the Government Weekly Press Conference on June 16, 2026, emphasizing its role in restoring civic order.

Comprising the Sierra Leone Police, Freetown City Council (FCC), and the Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), the task force seeks to enhance public discipline and bolster Freetown's appeal for investment and tourism.

Collaborative efforts with the FCC are underway to relocate traders to designated markets, following successful transitions in Wilberforce. High-congestion areas like Lumley and Jui are slated for similar interventions as facilities become available.

Minister Lengor highlighted that this inter-agency model is vital for sustainable urban development and may be implemented nationwide.

The task force will prioritize enforcing public order regulations to mitigate congestion and improve municipal law compliance.
