Green Scenery Sierra Leone has concluded a comprehensive assessment of 45 local farmers as part of a new initiative centered on agroecology and vertical farming. The project, conducted from May 20 to 21, 2026, aims to bolster food security and introduce sustainable, climate-resilient agricultural practices within the Pujehun Township.
Utilizing a standardized Farmer Assessment Checklist, the project team evaluated candidates based on their current agricultural engagement, land availability, and receptivity to innovative techniques. The selection criteria prioritize individuals demonstrating a high potential to contribute to community-level food production systems.
Following the assessment, Green Scenery Executive Director Joseph Rahall met with the participants on May 22 to outline the project's phased implementation. While 45 farmers underwent the initial evaluation, Mr. Rahall clarified that 25 beneficiaries would be selected for the pilot phase following a final verification process by the organization’s head office.
"Transparency is central to our selection process," Mr. Rahall stated, emphasizing that the pilot stage serves as a foundation for long-term expansion.
He encouraged the community to view the initiative as a broader vision for sustainable transformation in rural agriculture.
Local farmers have responded with optimism, noting that the introduction of vertical farming and agroecological methods could significantly improve crop yields and diversify income streams. The initiative is expected to enhance livelihood resilience and environmental sustainability across the district.
