Sierra Leone's Health Minister, Dr. Austin Demby, has unveiled a series of reforms aimed at strengthening the national healthcare system, improving access to quality medical services, and building a more resilient health sector.


Speaking on 18 June 2026, Dr. Demby outlined the government's ongoing efforts to modernize healthcare delivery and enhance the quality of services available to citizens nationwide.


Addressing an audience of international partners, healthcare stakeholders, and members of the Sierra Leonean diaspora, the Minister emphasized the importance of establishing a sustainable and equitable health system. He noted that restoring and maintaining public confidence in healthcare institutions remains a central priority of the government's reform agenda.


Demby highlighted several initiatives focused on upgrading healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to essential services, and strengthening the capacity of healthcare workers. These reforms are designed to ensure that quality care is accessible to more communities while enhancing the sector's ability to respond to future health challenges.


The Minister further stressed the necessity of continued collaboration between the government, development partners, and local communities to achieve lasting improvements in healthcare outcomes. He remarked that sustained investment and innovation will be critical to building a more effective health system.


His presentation was part of broader discussions at the Civic Day London Edition, where participants examined Sierra Leone's development priorities and explored ways to deepen engagement with the diaspora and international partners.
