The Ministry of Health has successfully concluded its final medical preparedness coordination meeting with healthcare professionals ahead of the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit, scheduled to take place in Sierra Leone from 12th to 19th July 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening emergency response systems and ensuring the delivery of effective healthcare support throughout the high-level regional event.

The engagement brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Health, medical specialists, doctors, nurses, personnel of the National Emergency Medical Service (NEMS), paramedics, and representatives of partner health institutions.

The participants reviewed operational plans, enhanced coordination among response teams, and assessed the country’s readiness to provide timely and quality medical services during the summit.

Discussions centred on emergency preparedness, referral systems, ambulance coordination, the availability of medical supplies, and improved collaboration between health and security institutions. Participants also emphasized the importance of professionalism, teamwork, and rapid response in managing potential emergencies, including trauma cases, road traffic accidents, diabetic emergencies, asthma attacks, and other critical health conditions.

The Ministry noted that the preparedness exercise marks an important milestone in ensuring Sierra Leone is fully equipped to provide safe, coordinated, and reliable healthcare services during the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit while reinforcing the country’s capacity to respond effectively to major regional events.
