Speaker Hails Information Minister’s Role in Building Public Confidence

The Speaker of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has commended the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, for his efforts in strengthening government communication and improving public confidence in official information.

The Speaker made the remarks during Parliament’s sitting on Thursday, 9 July 2026, while the Information Minister was presenting a Joint Venture Agreement between the Ministry of Information and Civic Education and the Diming Yimo Printing Group, dated 24 March 2026.

Rt. Hon. Thomas said the Ministry of Information and Civic Education had made significant progress in recent years, noting that public confidence in government communication had improved.

He recalled that many citizens were previously skeptical about official information from government institutions but said the situation had changed due to what he described as the Minister’s commitment to transparency and effective public engagement.

“I want to say that this House is proud of you, and I am extremely proud of you. Thank you very much for everything,” the Speaker said.

The commendation was made during the Minister’s presentation of the agreement, which formed part of the Ministry’s official business before Parliament.

In response, Chernor Bah expressed appreciation for the Speaker’s remarks, describing them as encouraging.

“Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, for those very kind words. I am humbled by your remarks,” the Minister said.

The Ministry of Information and Civic Education is responsible for government communication, public information, and civic awareness programmes aimed at improving citizens’ access to reliable information.

The Speaker’s remarks reflect Parliament’s recognition of ongoing efforts to strengthen communication between government institutions and the public.
