In a recent ruling at the High Court in Kono, Honorable Justice Santigie Ibrahim Sorie Bangura sentenced 40-year-old Ibrahim Bockarie to fifteen years of imprisonment. The conviction follows charges of sexual penetration of a minor, with the sentence to be served at the male correctional facility in Kono.
The defendant was charged with one count of sexual penetration of a child, a violation of Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012, as amended by Section 4(a)(iii) of the Sexual Offences Amendment Act, 2019.
The indictment detailed that on February 22, 2025, within the Kono Judicial District of the Eastern Province, the defendant engaged in the sexual penetration of a fourteen-year-old girl.
Representing the state, Prosecutor Charles Foday Sesay, Esq., presented testimonies from a medical professional and a police detective to establish the prosecution's case. It was noted during the proceedings that the accused had no prior criminal convictions.
Defense counsel Alpha Osman Kamara, Esq., argued in mitigation that his client was a first-time offender with potential for rehabilitation, requesting that the court consider the minimum possible sentence.
Justice Bangura acknowledged the defendant's plea and the efficiency with which the case was handled. However, he emphasized the gravity of the offense, stating that such actions are reprehensible and necessitate firm judicial responses to combat the sexual abuse of minors.
As a result, Ibrahim Bockarie was formally sentenced to fifteen years in the correctional facility.
