Hon. Paran Tarawallie officially resigned from his position as Clerk of Parliament, effective August 1, 2025. This move fulfills a key promise made during his successful campaign for the National Secretary General role of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). His resignation comes swiftly after his decisive victory in the July 31, 2025, election for the party's top administrative post.
Tarawallie's double role as Clerk of Parliament and an active political candidate had previously ignited months of intense public debate and scrutiny. The controversy reached a peak on June 20, 2025, when he was placed on administrative leave following mounting pressure from the Opposition Leader in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, and the civil society organization League of Democracy Advocates (LoDA).
Critics argued that his continued service violated crucial constitutional provisions and the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) Act, both of which mandate political neutrality for public officials, especially those in sensitive positions.
In an appreciation message dated August 4, 2025, Tarawallie expressed gratitude to the SLPP "foot soldiers" for their collective mandate.
He reiterated his pledge to serve the party to the best of his ability, assuring them that their decision to place the administration of the Secretariat in his hands was a mission accomplished.
He also specifically acknowledged the extraordinary and overwhelming support from Her Excellency Madam Fatima Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone, and his campaign team.
Tarawallie's resignation marks a significant transition, signaling his full commitment to his new role within the SLPP.
