The Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ) has issued a strong condemnation of recent remarks made by the Honourable Lahai Marah, the All People’s Congress (APC) District Chairman for Falaba, during a tripartite engagement at the Falaba District Council Hall. ILRAJ characterizes the statements as a grave threat to national security and public order.
According to ILRAJ's report, Mr. Marah allegedly asserted that the APC "has the capacity to resist the military and the police," and furthermore, he referenced the potential use of advanced technological warfare, including drones, as well as the possible procurement of private military services.
ILRAJ asserts that these remarks fundamentally undermine democratic institutions and constitute a direct challenge to the rule of law.
ILRAJ further stated that such inflammatory rhetoric significantly escalates political tensions and jeopardizes ongoing efforts to maintain national peace and unity. The organization expressed profound concern that a forum intended to cultivate constructive dialogue and build trust in anticipation of the 2028 elections was instead utilized for statements perceived as a blatant defiance of state authority.
In response, the organization calls upon the APC leadership to publicly and unequivocally dissociate itself from these comments, take immediate disciplinary action against the individual, and implement preventative measures to ensure similar incidents do not recur. Furthermore, ILRAJ urges political actors across the entire spectrum to refrain from divisive language, reject any suggestion of violence, and formally recommit to peaceful and lawful political engagement.
ILRAJ reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the maintenance of human rights and the rule of law, stating that it will continue its monitoring efforts and advocate for accountability to safeguard Sierra Leone’s democratic progress.
