Sierra Leone’s elite female boxer, Josefien Betist, has been appointed as the country's flag bearer for the official Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Betist will lead the delegation, proudly carrying the green, white, and blue flag among the 56 participating nations during the Opening Ceremony at the OVO Hydro on Thursday, July 23, 2026. This appointment serves as a significant milestone for Sierra Leone on the international stage, highlighting the nation’s sporting ambition and presence.
Born in the Netherlands and currently based in Ireland, Betist has solidified her reputation as a leading figure in Sierra Leonean boxing. Her selection recognizes not only her elite athletic performance but also her dedication to the National Elite Boxing Team.
Her extensive list of accolades includes victories at the 2023 Irish Senior and Under-23 Championships, a bronze medal at the 2023 European Under-22 Championships, and multiple gold medals secured at International Box Cup competitions across England, Latvia, and Germany in 2026.
As Team Sierra Leone joins the Parade of Nations, Betist’s role as flag bearer symbolizes the team’s unity and the country’s collective aspirations at this year's Commonwealth Games.
