Journalist Thomas Dixon has publicly criticized Speaker of Parliament Hon. Sengepoh Solomon Thomas for suggesting that public discussions about drug issues, specifically the "kush" crisis, be limited to protect Sierra Leone's international reputation.

The Hon. Speaker had made his statements in the House of Parliament amidst growing debates on the kush epidemic in Sierra Leone, referenced by international authories, including media.

In a media interview on Liberty Online TV, Dixon highlighted the severity of the kush crisis, referencing President Bio’s declaration of a state of emergency and other indicators of its escalating impact.

He countered the Speaker’s assertion that the problem is being exaggerated, noting that international organizations and organized crime monitors also identify Sierra Leone as a significant hub for kush activity.

Dixon challenged the Speaker, stating that if he believes Sierra Leoneans are overreacting, he should summon those suspected of involvement in the drug trade. Dixon suggested that, in line with parliamentary practices in other nations facing similar crises, the Speaker should call upon police chiefs, drug enforcement agencies, and finance ministers for questioning.

Furthermore, Dixon urged the Speaker to visit affected communities to witness firsthand the devastating effects of kush on young people.
