Kao Denero Leads Push for Sierra Leone’s Signature Sound

Sierra Leone’s music industry may soon establish a distinctive identity on the global stage following key announcements made at the Producers’ Retreat 2026.

The event, organized by Entertainment Ambassador Kao Denero, was held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Cacao Resort in Kailahun. It brought together leading producers, sound engineers, DJs, recording artists, and other key stakeholders within Sierra Leone’s music sector.

Addressing participants at the retreat, Ambassador Kao disclosed that he and a selected team of producers had carefully developed and identified two unique sounds that Sierra Leoneans can proudly claim as their own. He explained that the initiative is aimed at creating a recognizable Sierra Leonean sound similar to how Amapiano is associated with South Africa and Afrobeats with Nigeria to enhance the country’s global musical presence.

According to him, the initiative seeks to strengthen Sierra Leone’s musical identity, provide local artists with a stronger platform to showcase their creativity, and position the industry for broader international recognition.

Kao further emphasized that the mission transcends past disagreements within the industry, stressing that the primary focus remains the growth, unity, and global advancement of Sierra Leonean music.

Although the Association of Music Producers & Engineers in Sierra Leone (AMPE-SL) did not participate in the retreat, the Office of the Ambassador of Entertainment stated that all relevant stakeholders had been consulted in good faith. The office maintained that the initiative was designed to be inclusive and extends beyond individual organizations, with the broader goal of developing a collective sound identity that reflects Sierra Leone’s culture, heritage, and global aspirations.

The Producers’ Retreat 2026 concluded on a positive note, marking what organizers describe as a significant step toward formalizing Sierra Leone’s music identity, fostering international collaborations, and promoting national pride through uniquely defined sounds.
