Koroma’s Stunning Late Save Secures Point for Wilberforce Strikers Against Lions

Wilberforce Strikers and East End Lions settled for a goalless draw in their Matchweek 25 encounter, but the game will be remembered largely for a moment of brilliance from Strikers goalkeeper Francis Koroma, whose late wonder save denied East End Lions all three points.

The fixture, billed as one of the more promising clashes of the round, failed to produce goals despite periods of competitive play from both sides. The match was instead characterized by numerous half-chances, heavy challenges, and limited clear scoring opportunities.

Wilberforce Strikers, despite playing in front of a modest home crowd, showed early organization and resilience. They controlled the tempo in the opening stages and restricted East End Lions from creating meaningful chances. The attacking pair of Randy George and Osman Kargbo also posed occasional problems for the Lions defence, particularly in the first half.

East End Lions, however, enjoyed more possession but struggled to translate their dominance on the ball into real attacking threat, as both sides went into the break locked in a stalemate.

The second half saw a slight increase in intensity, with both teams pushing forward in search of a breakthrough. Chances began to emerge, but finishing remained a major issue at both ends.

The defining moment of the match came in the 82nd minute when East End Lions captain Alie Conteh, wearing jersey number 14, found himself through on goal in a one-on-one situation. With the goal seemingly open, Conteh looked set to secure victory for his side, only for Francis Koroma to produce a remarkable reflex save, tipping the effort away and keeping Wilberforce Strikers in the game.

The save sparked strong reactions from both players and supporters, as the Strikers bench celebrated what proved to be a decisive intervention.

Despite late pressure and appeals for disciplinary action from the home side, the match ended in a draw, with both teams forced to share the spoils.

The result leaves Wilberforce Strikers in 13th place with 28 points, still needing more consistent results to ease pressure in the lower half of the table. East End Lions remain in 8th position with 33 points, comfortably above the relegation battle and ahead of Mighty Blackpool in the standings.
