Labour Ministry Inspects Workplace Safety at Nants Energy Site

The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security inspected the 108.4-megawatt Nants Energy power project site in Kissy, Freetown, to evaluate working conditions, safety standards, and employment compliance.

During the October 30, 2026 inspection, Labour Minister Umaru Napoleon Koroma emphasized that safeguarding worker rights and safety is essential alongside job creation. He noted that site visits ensure compliance while supporting vital infrastructure investments addressing the nation's energy needs.

Executive Chairman Karim Nasser reported that the combined-cycle plant employs approximately 700 workers, with women making up nearly 20 percent of the workforce. The project has secured US$120 million in insurance support and US$40 million from the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development without a government guarantee.

Constructed by Shapoorji Pallonji with operations managed by Siemens, the facility will start on propane before transitioning to natural gas. Construction began in August 2025 and is scheduled for completion in August 2027.
