Labour Ministry Mandates New Monthly Minimum Wage of Le 1, 200,000

The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has officially established a new national minimum wage of Le 1, 200,000(old leones) per month. This statutory requirement will take effect at the conclusion of April, and all employers are legally obligated to ensure total compliance with the new pay scale.

During a recent address on Truth Media, Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray underscored that this adjustment is a cornerstone of the government’s strategic initiative to elevate the national standard of living. Minister Swaray noted that while Le 1,200,000 represents the legal floor, the Ministry strongly encourages organizations to provide enhanced compensation packages where possible.

"If you can exceed the minimum requirements, such efforts will be highly commended and appreciated," the Minister stated.

Furthermore, Minister Swaray confirmed that the Ministry has established formal channels to process grievances from employees whose compensation does not meet the new threshold. He emphasized the Ministry's dedication to rigorous enforcement and the protection of workers' rights, stating that their doors remain open to any individual seeking to report non-compliance.

Organizations are advised to review and adjust their payroll systems immediately to ensure all staff members are remunerated in accordance with the law.

The Ministry cautioned that failure to adhere to these regulations could lead to official investigations and the imposition of legal sanctions.
