A recently leaked audio recording circulating on social media has exposed significant internal divisions within the All People’s Congress (APC) concerning the flagbearer aspirations of Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, widely known as Jagaban.
The audio features voices, alleged by online sources to belong to senior party figures, discussing strategies to impede Kamara’s candidacy. One speaker, reportedly Omrie Golley, is heard questioning Kamara’s fitness for leadership and his vision for the party, asserting that the APC is fundamentally a party of ordinary citizens, a historical identity he contrasted with the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), which he characterized as being supported by elites.
The speaker warned that Jagaban’s increasing profile, if unchecked, could jeopardize the APC’s electoral viability, stressing the need for strong core leadership to counter the SLPP.
In another segment, a different voice suggested the APC currently suffers from a leadership vacuum and described the 'Jagaban issue' as a major internal challenge. The conversation also included comments alleging that Kamara relies heavily on financial resources for his political advancement, with speakers questioning the weight money should hold in determining leadership.
Further remarks, unsubstantiated by evidence within the audio, challenged Kamara’s educational credentials and communication skills.
The speakers collectively cautioned that a failure to achieve unity against Kamara’s ambition could severely damage the party's prospects in upcoming elections. As of now, the APC leadership and Jagaban Kamara have not issued official public statements confirming the audio’s authenticity or addressing the claims made within it.
This development underscores the intensifying internal fractures within the APC as it moves toward its flagbearer selection process.
