Magistrate Sao Mamakoh Betty Kallon of the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 3 has handed down a six-month custodial sentence to Thomas Sesay at the Male Correctional Centre after he was convicted of larceny.
Sesay was formally charged with one count of larceny, an offence contravening Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. The police charge sheet indicated that the incident took place on Thursday, 22nd January 2026, at No. 9C Olorshoroh, Murray Town. The accused was alleged to have stolen a security light, valued at Leones 1,000, which belonged to the complainant, Zainab Sesay.
It was further alleged by the police that Sesay unlawfully removed the security light without the owner's permission, thereby unlawfully depriving her of her property.
During the court proceedings, the charge was read and explained to Sesay in a language he comprehended, and he subsequently entered an unequivocal plea of guilty to the offence.
In delivering the judgment, Magistrate Kallon underscored the gravity of the offence, stating that the theft of private property, irrespective of its monetary value, constitutes a criminal act punishable by law. She emphasized that such actions contribute to community insecurity and stressed the imperative of deterrence.
The magistrate further affirmed that the court maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards criminal behaviour and will continue to impose stringent penalties on offenders to serve as a significant deterrent to others.
Consequently, Thomas Sesay was sentenced to six months' imprisonment at the Male Correctional Centre.
