A devastating fire has claimed lives and left dozens homeless in the Looking Town community of Grafton, following a late-night inferno that razed a residential building on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

The blaze, which broke out late Tuesday night, rapidly engulfed the apartment structure, reducing it to rubble by the early hours of Wednesday. Firefighters from the National Fire Force battled through the night in a desperate attempt to contain the flames, but the intensity of the fire made it impossible to salvage the building.

Authorities have since confirmed fatalities, marking the most tragic aspect of the incident. While initial efforts focused on rescuing occupants, emergency responders later discovered multiple bodies in the debris. Eyewitnesses and residents reported that two elderly individuals were feared trapped inside during the blaze, raising concerns that they may be among the victims. Officials described the recovery operation as “shocking,” noting that some of the deceased suffered severe burn injuries. The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, as authorities continue efforts to identify the victims.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation. Firefighters are still at the scene working to extinguish lingering hot spots and secure the area for forensic examination. Investigators are expected to assess whether the building complied with safety standards and to determine the factors that contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

The tragedy has left the Looking Town community in deep shock, with many residents displaced and properties destroyed. Survivors have lost belongings and shelter, as local authorities and community leaders begin coordinating support efforts for affected families. Officials are urging the public to remain calm and allow investigations to proceed as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the disaster.
