His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has today 10th July 2023, released a list of his first appointees into cabinet and other positions.
Among the list of old and new names, President Bio made an appointment of seven women into substantive and Deputy Ministerial positions, out of a total of seventeen.
This puts the percentage of female representatives of his first appointment at 41%, a fulfillment of the GEWE quota of 30% of women in appointed positions for public office.
One of the two substantive Ministers is Dr. Ramatulai Wurie, appointed as the Minister of Higher and Technical Education. She was serving as the Senior Lecturer and Multi-disciplinary researcher at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, University of Sierra Leone.
Another Substantive Minister is Ms. Manti Tarawalli, appointed as a Minister of State in the Vice President's Office. She was serving as the Minister of Gender and Children's Affairs and a pioneer of the Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment(GEWE) law.
Madam Jeneba Bangura, former Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority has been appointed as Deputy MInister 1 of the Ministry of Finance.
Mrs. Francess Paigie Alghali who has been appointed as the Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs was serving as a MInister of State in the Vice President's Office.
Madam Emily K. Gogra and Madam Mamusu Massaquoi maintained their position as Deputy Minister one and two of the Ministry of Basic & Senior Secondary Education.
Madam Fatmata Wurie who has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry is the current Chairperson for the Washington Chapter of the Sierra Leone People's Party.
