Military Officer Found Dead at Port Loko Mining Site - Police Launch Investigation

Authorities in Port Loko City have launched an investigation into the death of a military officer, Sergeant Alhaji Bayoh, who was attached to the Lungi 3 Infantry Military Battalion and deployed at the Commodity Trading Company (CTC) Mining site at Gbere Junction, Port Loko District.
According to police reports, the incident was reported on October 27, 2025, by Umaru Bilkish Kamara, a Community Liaison Officer at CTC Mining Company, and Corporal Conteh (M18181706), who is also attached to the site. They reportedly discovered the body of Sergeant Bayoh in a pitch hole within the mining area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the officer was attacked by unknown assailants, killed, and then dumped into the hole. The incident has sparked fear and tension in Gbere Junction and neighboring communities.
A joint security operation involving personnel from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing. Police sources confirmed that several arrests have already been made as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Resident Minister for the Northwest Region, Ambassador Bon Wurie, has called for heightened security and urged local authorities to fully cooperate with the investigation team to ensure justice is served.
Meanwhile, residents report that Gbere Junction and surrounding areas are under heavy security presence as investigations and patrol operations continue.
