Information Minister Chernor Bah has vigorously defended President Julius Maada Bio's frequent international travels, asserting that the national benefits derived from these trips far outweigh the financial costs.
His remarks come amidst growing public debate and scrutiny over the President's travel schedule, particularly concerning expenditures during a period of economic sensitivity.
During a recent media interview, Bah articulated the government's position, emphasizing that each presidential trip is meticulously planned and executed with the primary objective of securing vital resources and opportunities for Sierra Leone.
He dismissed suggestions that President Bio travels for personal leisure, stating that the President's personal interests are confined to nature and family time.
"When the president chooses to travel, it’s because he has done a cost-benefit analysis," Bah stated, highlighting a strategic approach to foreign engagements.
He elaborated that these trips are not merely ceremonial but are purposeful endeavors aimed at national development, consistently yielding tangible results for the country.
The minister's defense directly addresses public discussions that have questioned the volume and cost of presidential travels.
He reiterated that, from the government's perspective, the returns on these investments are demonstrably greater than the expenses incurred, reinforcing the administration's commitment to prioritizing national interests through diplomatic outreach.
