NASSIT Courts Media Support for Public Awareness and Asset Protection

The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Chernor Mamoud Jalloh, has called on media practitioners to help tackle encroachment on the Trust’s land, raise public awareness about social security and promote compliance with pension obligations.

He made the appeal during an interactive press cocktail at Country Lodge in Freetown on 21 October 2026, seeking stronger collaboration between NASSIT and the media to improve public understanding of the institution’s operations and responsibilities.

Mr Jalloh said he had long wanted an opportunity to engage journalists face-to-face since assuming office, emphasising their role in explaining the importance of Sierra Leone’s National Pension Scheme and keeping the public informed about NASSIT’s activities.

He urged journalists to highlight the consequences of encroaching on NASSIT-owned land, stressing that protecting the Trust’s assets is essential to fulfilling its mandate. He also outlined efforts to improve efficiency, streamline work processes and enhance service delivery for members and pensioners.

The Director General reaffirmed his commitment to advancing NASSIT’s responsibilities, expressed appreciation to President Julius Maada Bio, and acknowledged the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, for collaborating with the Trust to organise the engagement.

He further urged media practitioners to comply with National Pension Scheme requirements and encourage the wider public to do the same, stressing that social security obligations apply to journalists and other groups.
