NASSIT Delegation Reviews Progress on 108.4MW NANT Power Project

The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Chernor Mamoud Jalloh, has led a delegation of senior officials to the NANT Power Project at Kissy Dockyard in Freetown to assess construction progress, employment and plans to begin electricity generation in 2027.
The visit on 21 October 2026 included the Chairperson of the NASSIT Board of Trustees and other senior officials, who received updates on the project’s implementation and expansion plans.
NANT’s Administration and Logistics Manager, Peter Kamuray, explained that the project involves a 108.4-megawatt (MW) power plant using liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in a combined-cycle system. Once completed, it is expected to supply electricity to the national grid, particularly in Freetown and the Western Area, while supporting economic growth, energy security and emissions reduction.
Mr Kamuray disclosed that the project employs 740 people, including 597 Sierra Leoneans, and confirmed that the company was meeting its NASSIT obligations by paying social security contributions for its employees.
NANT Executive Director Karim Nasser said power generation was expected to begin in April 2027, with commissioning scheduled for August 2027. He also highlighted the company’s community initiatives, including student sponsorship and road construction, and disclosed that a Power Purchase Agreement had been signed between the Government of Sierra Leone and CECA Sierra Leone Generation Limited.
The delegation subsequently toured the project site to observe ongoing construction. The visit also reinforced the importance of employers complying with social security contribution requirements to protect workers’ pension benefits.
