Njala University SUG Raises Concern Over 2025/2026 Tuition Fee Increase

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Njala University, Bo Campus, has expressed concern over the sharp increase in tuition and other university fees for the 2025/2026 academic year, warning that the hike places a heavy financial burden on students and their families.

In a statement from the Office of the President, the Union said it is committed to protecting the welfare of students and will continue to advocate on issues affecting their well-being. Preliminary discussions with the university administration are reportedly underway, focusing on ways to ease the financial load while maintaining open communication.

The SUG is also engaging the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, citing Section 21 of the Sierra Leone University Act, 2021, which requires consultation with the Ministry before any tuition adjustments.

While these efforts continue, the Union has called on students to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding. “The Union remains committed to ensuring that every student’s voice is heard,” the statement said. “We will keep working around the clock to push for measures that can ease the burden of this increase.”

The SUG concluded by urging the university community to support dialogue as the best path forward in addressing the fee hike.
