NRA Deploys 10,000 Smart GST Machines to Boost Compliance

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has launched a nationwide deployment of Smart Goods and Services Tax (GST) machines to 10,000 registered businesses, marking a significant step to strengthen compliance and bolster domestic revenue collection.

The new devices will enhance electronic transaction tracking and complement the existing Electronic Cash Register system. According to the NRA, the initiative is designed to increase transparency, improve record accuracy, and minimize revenue leakages through tighter transaction monitoring.

At a distribution and sensitization event at Rensis House in Freetown, NRA Commissioner General Abu Martin Kanneh highlighted the mutual benefits of the new technology.

"The Smart GST machines will benefit businesses and the Government by promoting accurate record-keeping, strengthening compliance, and building customer confidence," Kanneh stated.

To support the transition, NRA officials are conducting nationwide outreach to offer hands-on training and technical assistance to operators. The Authority reiterated that registered businesses are legally required to issue valid GST receipts for all taxable transactions.

Furthermore, the NRA is urging consumers to actively support the compliance drive by demanding official receipts, while calling on journalists and media outlets to help educate the public on the importance of the initiative.
