Opposition Leader Kargbo Presses WAEC, Education Ministry Over 47,454 Withheld Results

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, has urged the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education to urgently resolve the withheld 2026 WASSCE results of 47,454 candidates, comprising 26,735 females and 20,719 males.

In a press release dated October 28, 2026, Kargbo warned that delays could jeopardise university admissions and force affected students to lose an academic year. He called for transparent investigations, clear explanations and a definite timeline for resolving the cases.

While acknowledging the need to investigate suspected examination malpractice, Kargbo stressed that withheld results should not automatically be treated as cancelled results, adding that suspicion alone does not prove wrongdoing.

He also urged authorities to engage universities and other tertiary institutions to consider flexible admission arrangements for affected candidates, subject to the eventual release of their results and institutional entry requirements.

Kargbo emphasised that candidates cleared of wrongdoing should not be penalised by prolonged investigations, calling for a fair, timely and compassionate process that protects examination integrity while safeguarding students’ educational opportunities.
