Former All People’s Congress (APC) Deputy Secretary-General and presidential aspirant, Osman Timbo, has demanded a public retraction of statements made by Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh during an interview on Radio Democracy 98.1 FM on Thursday morning.
During the interview, Sengeh alleged that Timbo, along with other senior party figures, “imposed” decisions on former APC presidential candidate Dr. Samura Kamara during the tripartite engagement that led to the Agreement for National Unity. He suggested that Kamara was compelled to adopt positions he personally opposed, implying that party advisers and colleagues dictated his actions.
Responding to the claims, Timbo categorically denied the allegations, describing them as “lies, malicious, deceitful, and rancorous.” He stated, “At no time did I impose or force Dr. Samura Kamara to do anything. How could I even? It doesn’t make sense.” He further remarked that some individuals, in their quest for power, often resort to unsubstantiated accusations to tarnish reputations.
Timbo emphasized that he has built an honest and unblemished reputation, achieved “organically, without holding any public position of authority, and with an unblemished family pedigree.” He warned that he expects a formal public retraction of the statements attributed to him and is considering further action should the demand not be met.
The dispute highlights ongoing tensions within the APC over internal party dynamics and historical decisions, particularly concerning the tripartite engagement process. Sengeh’s remarks have triggered renewed debate about accountability, influence, and leadership roles within the party.
As of the time of filing this report, Chief Minister Sengeh had not issued an official response to Timbo’s demand, leaving the matter unresolved as political observers continue to monitor developments.
