Parliament Bans Public Comment on NEW Financial Investigation

Members of Parliament have formally announced a moratorium on public commentary regarding the ongoing deliberations for financial investigation into National Elections Watch (NEW). This decision follows a ruling by the Speaker of the House concerning the establishment of an Ad Hoc Committee specifically mandated to oversee the inquiry.
In accordance with the official directive, Parliamentarians are procedurally bound by Standing Order 75, which prohibits the public discussion of matters currently under parliamentary consideration. The motion, aims to uphold the principles of transparency and fiscal accountability regarding the resources managed by NEW on behalf of the citizens of Sierra Leone, raised as a concern by many other civil society organization.
The parliamentary delegation emphasized that no media interviews will be granted for the duration of the investigation.
The House expressed its gratitude to the press and the general public for their cooperation in respecting the sanctity of these legislative proceedings.
Both motion proposer and seconder reaffirmed that this temporary cessation of public comment is essential for maintaining order and institutional integrity during the oversight process.
