President Julius Maada Bio has affirmed his administration's foundational commitment to securing lasting peace and a robust democratic system within Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the State House during a meeting with the Lead Moral Guarantor, H.E. Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, the President underscored the importance of sustained national unity. President Bio reiterated his commitment to the Agreement for National Unity, which he initiated in October 2023.
He described this mediated dialogue as a pivotal framework for strengthening democratic governance and maintaining national stability. The President reflected that his government came to power following an extended thirty-year era of one-party dominance, making the restoration of inclusive democratic practices a core objective.
Beyond institutionalizing democracy, the administration prioritized intentional peacebuilding efforts. These efforts included deliberate steps to mitigate national tensions and establish clear pathways for political dialogue.
President Bio emphasized the essential role of transparency in both governance and electoral processes, encouraging broad public participation to address national issues. While acknowledging historical electoral challenges, he stressed the imperative for continued reforms to enhance institutional credibility and public confidence.
He concluded by thanking the moral guarantors for their continued support of the dialogue process, calling for sustained engagement among all political actors to foster cooperation and stability across the political spectrum.
The President assured the nation of his unwavering dedication to upholding his oath of office and acting solely in Sierra Leone's best interests.
