His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, conducted an on-site inspection of the Nant Power Project in Kissy today, receiving updates from project leadership on the construction of the country’s major gas-to-power facility.

Designed to significantly enhance national energy security and grid stability, the landmark facility—formerly known as the Western Area Power Generation Project—is slated to generate approximately 108 megawatts of electricity once fully operational.

"The Nant Power Project represents a vital step toward delivering reliable, sustainable, and cleaner electricity for our households, businesses, and essential public services," President Bio stated during the site briefing.

A key driver behind the infrastructure initiative is the bilateral partnership between Sierra Leone and the United States.

The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) committed up to $412 million in financing and political risk insurance during the project's groundbreaking in June 2024, facilitating substantial international investment.

Beyond expanding domestic power access, government officials anticipate the plant will bolster investor confidence, drive industrial productivity, and support broader long-term economic transformation across Sierra Leone.
