Corporal Stevens (RSLAF 18181456), a member of the Presidential Guard Unit, has been arrested following the fatal shooting of his superior, Warrant Officer Class One Moses Brima Kabba, during an official duty assignment at the Freetown International Airport in Lungi.
The incident occurred on Wednesday within the Presidential Guard Precinct while both officers were on duty. According to sources familiar with the matter, the confrontation allegedly stemmed from a disagreement over the distribution of tokens reportedly issued by the Vice President to members of the Presidential Guard. Such tokens are customarily shared whenever the President or Vice President travels, and tensions have occasionally arisen among personnel during distribution.
Witnesses say Corporal Stevens accused Warrant Officer Kabba of withholding funds meant for the team. At the time of the disagreement, Stevens was assigned to secure the President’s Lounge. The argument allegedly escalated, leading to the fatal shooting.
Following the incident, Kabba’s remains were transported to the Lungi Government Hospital. The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and the Sierra Leone Police immediately launched a manhunt, culminating in the arrest of Corporal Stevens and the recovery of his service rifle. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The RSLAF and. the Sierra Leone Police have initiated a joint inquiry to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting. No official statement has yet been issued by the relevant authorities.
