Seven-Day Ultimatum To SLPP Passes, Threat of Court Action Persist

Legal representatives for Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally has made public a letter issued days earlier, rejecting response from lawyers representing the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), maintaining that party leadership has failed to substantiate allegations made in a recent public notice.

In a letter dated September 24, 2026, law firm Jengo, Sam & Partners informed opposing counsel Gevao & Associates that their reply—written on the instructions of SLPP National Publicity Secretary Moses Sellu Mambu—failed to address the core legal concerns raised on Tarawally’s behalf.

According to Tarawally’s counsel, the dispute centers not on his eligibility to seek party nomination, but on an official notice issued under the hand and stamp of the SLPP National Chairman. The notice cautioned party members, the business community, and the general public against conducting transactions with Tarawally under the guise of the SLPP.

In their initial correspondence, Tarawally’s lawyers demanded specific instances where their client allegedly transacted business in the party’s name, alongside details identifying the specific party organ or official that authorized the disclaimer.

Counsel asserted that the SLPP’s legal reply provided neither justification nor evidence.

“We are entitled to conclude, and shall invite any court to conclude, that there are no such occasions and no such authority,” the letter stated, characterizing the public notice as “a bare instrument of ostracism issued without foundation and without power.”

The legal team emphasized that the demands set forth in their original September 21 letter remain active and that the deadline for party compliance looms without resolution.

They warned that legal proceedings will commence “without further notice” now that the ultimatum window draws close.

Copies of the letter were served to key party stakeholders, including Mambu, the SLPP National Leader, National Chairman, Deputy National Chairman, and National Secretary General.

With the seven days ultimatum timeline elapsed for over 24-hours, political observers are speculating whether behind-the-scenes mediation is underway to protect the party’s image, or if the current lull precedes formal litigation in court.
