Sierra Leone Evacuates Nationals from Iran Amidst Mideast Tensions

The Government of Sierra Leone has successfully executed the evacuation of 24 Sierra Leonean nationals and embassy staff from the Islamic Republic of Iran. This action was taken in response to the recent escalation of military strikes and retaliatory actions across the Middle East.

All evacuees have been safely relocated to the Republic of Armenia, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The group comprises 14 students, one private citizen, three Sierra Leonean diplomats, and six locally recruited embassy staff based in Tehran.

The Ministry activated its emergency protocols promptly in response to the evolving security situation, thereby ensuring the safe and orderly departure of all citizens. The Government maintains continuous monitoring of regional developments and remains actively engaged through its diplomatic missions.

Updates from Sierra Leone's diplomatic missions indicate that all Sierra Leoneans residing in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Israel are currently safe.

Given the dynamic security environment, the Government strongly advises all Sierra Leonean citizens in affected areas to strictly adhere to local safety directives, including established curfews and emergency procedures. Citizens are also encouraged to maintain consistent contact with their families and the nation's diplomatic missions.

The Ministry underscores that the safety and welfare of Sierra Leonean citizens remain the Government's paramount concern, and further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
