The Sierra Leone High Commission in Nigeria has issued a formal clarification following the circulation of a social media interview featuring a woman claiming to be a Sierra Leonean residing in Nigeria.
In a press release dated December 17, 2025, the High Commission addressed the video's allegations and reiterated its mandate to protect the welfare of Sierra Leoneans abroad.
The Commission noted that while it holds regular welfare meetings with the Sierra Leone Nationals Association, no official complaint has been raised regarding the individual in question. It emphasized that registration is crucial for nationals to access support services.
The statement also highlighted the successful repatriation of 422 stranded individuals in 2025, underscoring that all requests for assistance are subject to verification to ensure the responsible use of public funds. The High Commission urged all Sierra Leoneans in Nigeria to register with its offices.
