Sierra Leone officially commenced its hosting duties for the 2026 ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit with the opening of the 39th Session of the Administration and Finance Committee (AFC) on Sunday, 12 July 2026. Held at the Bintumani International Conference Centre in Freetown, the three-day gathering brings together representatives from ECOWAS Member States and various community institutions.

The session is dedicated to reviewing critical administrative and financial strategies, including budget implementation, human resource management, and institutional performance. Discussions aim to develop practical recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of ECOWAS operations and ensure sound financial accountability across the regional bloc.

In his opening remarks, AFC Chairman Mr. Komba Momoh welcomed delegates and expressed gratitude to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for his leadership as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. Mr. Momoh emphasized the committee's vital role in promoting prudent resource management and institutional efficiency.

Representing the ECOWAS Commission, Vice President H.E. Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to regional integration. She urged delegates to address pressing regional challenges, including climate change, youth unemployment, peace, security, and the need for greater institutional resilience.

The committee’s findings and recommendations will serve as a foundation for upcoming deliberations at the ECOWAS Council of Ministers and the broader Authority of Heads of State and Government during the Mid-Year Summit.

This event marks another milestone in Sierra Leone’s ongoing engagement with regional partners to foster economic cooperation and sustainable development across West Africa.
