The Government of Sierra Leone has facilitated the successful repatriation of nine West African nationals to their respective home countries. The individuals, all citizens of ECOWAS member states, were temporarily housed in Sierra Leone after arriving from the United States under the Third Country National Agreement.

A June 4 statement from the Ministry of Information and Civic Education confirmed the group arrived on May 20. Upon arrival, the government provided humanitarian assistance in accordance with established international protocols.

During their transit, the nationals received comprehensive support services, including medical screenings, psychosocial care, meals, and emergency clothing. These efforts were coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with diplomatic missions and Kenvah Solutions.

Following the completion of necessary consular and administrative procedures, all nine individuals opted for voluntary return to their countries of origin. Officials emphasized that the process adhered to international standards to ensure the safety and dignity of the individuals throughout their stay.

The Ministry characterized the operation as a reflection of Sierra Leone’s commitment to regional migration management and humanitarian responsibility.

“The successful process reflects Sierra Leone's commitment to regional cooperation and the orderly management of migration,” the Ministry noted.

The conclusion of this coordinated effort reinforces the nation’s capacity to work with international partners in providing temporary protection and dignified transit solutions within the ECOWAS region.
