Sierra Leone & Saudi Arabia: Enhancing Bilateral Security Cooperation

On Wednesday 24th June 2026, Sierra Leone and Saudi Arabia have committed to strengthening bilateral security cooperation following high-level discussions between Internal Affairs Minister AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor and Saudi Ambassador H.E. Saudi Al-Musaed in Freetown.

The meeting, held at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Wilberforce, focused on enhancing collaboration in key areas, including national security, counter-terrorism, regional stability, and the mitigation of transnational crime.

During the session, Minister Lengor presented the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Strategic Plan, detailing the priorities and operations of its departments. He requested Saudi support to facilitate the implementation of these objectives.

Deliberations also addressed strengthening cooperation in combating international drug trafficking and cross-border criminal activities, with both parties emphasizing the necessity of coordinated efforts to address emerging security threats.

Ambassador Al-Musaed affirmed Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s efforts in promoting peace, security, and national stability.

This engagement served to reinforce the diplomatic relationship between the two nations and explore further avenues for cooperation to improve security and foster regional development.

Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to promoting peace and stability across West Africa through enhanced institutional collaboration and coordinated security strategies.

To formalize this partnership, Sierra Leone and Saudi Arabia intend to pursue a security cooperation agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to solidify ties.

The discussions concluded with both sides pledging to continue their collaborative efforts in counter-terrorism, the combat against organized crime, and the enhancement of regional security.
