Sierra Leone Warned of New Ebola Threat: No Vaccine for DRC Strain
Senior scientist Dr. Alhaji U. Njai has issued an urgent warning to Sierra Leone regarding a dangerous Ebola strain currently circulating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Unlike previous outbreaks, this specific strain currently lacks an approved vaccine or targeted therapy, leaving the region highly vulnerable.
Speaking on Truth Media, Dr. Njai emphasized that citizens should be "very worried," as vaccine development could take up to a year. While international partners like the WHO and Africa CDC explore repurposed antivirals, the scientific challenge remains significant.
To mitigate the risk of cross-border transmission, Dr. Njai called on the Government of Sierra Leone to immediately prioritize the following actions:
Strengthen laboratory detection and diagnostic capabilities.
Enhance national disease surveillance and rapid response protocols.
Foster intense cross-border collaboration with neighboring nations.
With the DRC outbreak under close international scrutiny, Dr. Njai maintains that early detection is the only definitive way to prevent the virus from repeating its devastating history in Sierra Leone.
