The Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) has issued a statement congratulating Edmond Alpha on his appointment as the new Chief Electoral Commissioner (CEC) of Sierra Leone. This appointment followed a consultative process involving leaders from 12 of the 14 registered political parties.
In its press release dated 21 February 2026, the SLBA acknowledged Alpha's appointment, made pursuant to Section 32(3) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No. 6 of 1991), and simultaneously urged him to execute his responsibilities with strict impartiality and professionalism. The Association underscored that these attributes are paramount as the nation progresses toward the 2028 general elections.
The SLBA confirmed its active oversight of the situation, stating that it "remains closely monitoring the situation and is seised of the matter." This emphasizes the SLBA's sustained commitment to ensuring electoral processes are conducted transparently and in strict compliance with the law.
The statement aims to bolster public confidence in the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) and serve as a reminder to all stakeholders that credible and impartial leadership in electoral management is fundamental to the integrity of Sierra Leonean democracy.
The SLBA concluded its official statement with the Latin dictum, “Fiat Justitia” (Let justice be done), reaffirming its dedication to justice and the maintenance of the rule of law.
