SLBA Convenes Extraordinary Meeting Following Police Disruption of AGM

The Board of Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) Board has called an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to resolve a leadership crisis following a disrupted annual assembly.

The late July Annual General Meeting (AGM) was halted on July 31, 2026, due to police intervention, which the Board claims prevented constitutional business and elections.

With the Board's mandate ending August 18, 2026, the SLBA faces a governance crisis. The Board stated they are acting to ensure a lawful transition of power.

The Board officially committed to conducting Association affairs according to the Constitution and the rule of law.

The EGM aims to appoint a Caretaker Body to manage the Association until a reconvened AGM. Its key tasks include:

• Preserving the assets, records, and institutional integrity of the SLBA;

• Facilitating the completion of the constitutional governance process;

• Conducting the delayed Annual General Meeting; and

• Supervising the election and installation of a new Board of Directors.

This interim mandate will end once a new Board is elected.

Members are urged to attend the EGM this Thursday to finalize these arrangements.

The meeting is set for Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the D’Bim D’ Bam Multipurpose Complex, Freetown.
