SLP, RSLAF Conduct Clean-Up Exercise in Lungi Ahead of ECOWAS Summit

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), in collaboration with the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and community stakeholders, have conducted an environmental clean-up exercise across Lungi Township as preparations continue for the upcoming ECOWAS Summit of Heads of State and Government.
The exercise, conducted on 13 July 2026, focused on improving sanitation, enhancing security, and maintaining key public areas within the host community ahead of the regional gathering.
More than 150 police recruits were deployed to support cleaning activities at the Freetown International Airport and other strategic locations across Lungi. The recruits were received by the Local Unit Commander of the Lungi Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Augustine Momoh Kamara, and the Local Unit Commander of the Anvil/Airport Police Division, CSP Mohamed Kugba Allieu, who are supervising the operation.
Personnel from the RSLAF and members of the local community also participated in the exercise, clearing overgrown vegetation, removing waste, sweeping streets, cleaning drainage channels, and improving public spaces across the township.
The initiative forms part of wider preparations as Sierra Leone gets ready to host the ECOWAS Summit, with Lungi serving as a key entry point for delegates and visitors arriving for the event.
The participating institutions emphasised that maintaining proper sanitation and security measures is essential to promoting public health, ensuring safety, and creating a welcoming environment for visitors.
The commanders commended the police recruits, RSLAF personnel, and community members for their participation, while highlighting the importance of collaboration among institutions and local stakeholders during major national events.
The SLP and its partners reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation with relevant institutions and communities to support a safe and orderly environment throughout the summit period.
