Tensions are reportedly rising within the BRU District political landscape as allegations emerge against the National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Jimmy Batilo Songa, over claims of interference in the ongoing district elections.
According to local stakeholders, Chairman Songa is accused of openly supporting one of the aspirants, Safia Kpaika, popularly known as “Biggy.” Critics argue that such alleged involvement by a senior national party official could undermine fairness and neutrality in the internal democratic process.
Party insiders and observers suggest that the perceived support risks creating an uneven playing field, potentially influencing delegates and weakening confidence in the credibility of the election. Concerns have also been raised that the situation could deepen existing divisions within the party at district level.
However, there has been no official public statement or verified response from Chairman Songa addressing the allegations. In previous engagements, he has consistently emphasized party unity, discipline, and adherence to democratic principles as key pillars of the SLPP’s strength.
As the BRU District elections approach, political analysts caution that ensuring transparency and fairness will be crucial to maintaining internal cohesion and sustaining public confidence in the party’s leadership structures.
The situation remains fluid, with stakeholders calling for calm, due process, and strict adherence to democratic norms as the electoral process continues.
